Bridges

Bridges provided a drug and alcohol education programme, via workshops and its training material, to schools. It targeted Grade 6 to 12 learners, their educators and parents. The programme was founded on reputable research into demand reduction strategies.

For a review of the project, see Griggs, R. (2002) Preventing Crime and Violence in South African Schools at http://www.osf.org.za/Publications/

Khulisa:

Make It Better Programme: An intervention programme that equips out of school youth with the leadership and organisational skills needed to run community-based projects. These projects are aimed at crime prevention through youth development and include drug education, counselling and support groups, HIV/AIDS education and counselling and cultural and recreational activities. Youth leaders also mentor juvenile offenders enrolled in our New Directions diversion programme. MIB Programmes are currently running at 14 locations around South Africa.
